EU Perspectives Podcast on the Future of European Defence
Brussels, 18.3.2025
In one of the latest episodes of the EU Perspectives podcast, ICE’s defence expert, Martin Fedor, joined a powerful debate on the future of European defence.
Alongside MEPs Rasa Juknevičienė, Petras Auštrevičius, and Markéta Gregorová, Martin Fedor shared his insights on the challenges posed by Russian aggression, the importance of delivering results, and the need for smarter defence spending.
Mr. Fedor stressed the importance of a common threat assessment as the foundation for effective European defence:
„I consider the European Union to be a great project, one that has brought peace to the European continent through cooperation, especially economic cooperation. But there has always been the idea of developing a defence union inside the EU. We need to build defence capabilities to confront the well-known threats. And I must insist that agreement on threat assessment is the number one task for the whole European Union.”
He also pointed out that the challenges we face are not only military:
“It’s a battle for our minds and hearts, what we believe in, whether we are going to help each other inside the EU,“ Mr. Fedor emphasized, highlighting the need to counter the hybrid threats, including disinformation campaigns.
