ACRONYM Educational Video Series on Migration

We are proud to present the ACRONYM Educational Video Series on Migration, a collection of short, accessible videos featuring leading experts in migration studies.

The series explores key questions on migration, asylum, and refugee issues, unpacking complex topics through clear explanations and critical insights. Each video focuses on one central question, helping students, journalists, and the wider public better understand the realities and narratives that shape migration today. From definitions, legal frameworks and health impacts to climate-induced mobility, integration, media framing, and radical cartography, these videos aim to make complex topics more accessible and to inspire informed discussion.

Migration is one of the defining issues of our time – influenced by conflict, climate change, economic shifts, and the ways societies perceive movement across borders. Yet, public debate often remains polarized or oversimplified. Through this series, the ACRONYM project aims to bridge research and public understanding.

The series features contributions from:

  • Clarissa Tabosa – What’s the difference between a migrant, asylum seeker, and refugee?
  • François Gemenne – Who is a climate refugee, and what protections do they (not) have?
  • Anneliese Depoux – What’s a key misunderstanding about climate migration and health?
  • Başak Yavçan – What does integration really mean, and how can we measure it?
  • Charles Autheman – How do media language and journalists shape migration narratives?
  • Lucie Bacon – What is radical cartography, and how can maps reshape migrant journeys?
  • Dina Ionesco – How are Europe’s leaders responding to climate migration?

An introductory video, recorded during the ACRONYM Summer School in Corsica, opens the series with a simple yet powerful question: “What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘refugee’?”

Together, these short videos invite reflection, spark curiosity, and encourage evidence-based conversation about one of today’s most important global challenges.
